The Road to Emmaus
The Gospel does not tell us her name.
It does not tell us whether she walked the road, asked the questions, or recognised the Scriptures being opened.
But we know she was there.
Someone baked the bread.
Someone laid the table.
Someone poured the wine.
Someone later gathered the crumbs and washed the cups after the miracle had already happened.
She does not get a verse.
She does not get a speech.
She does not get a quoted insight.
Yet without her, there is no table.
And without the table, there is no breaking of bread.
And without the breaking of bread, the disciples do not recognise the risen Christ.
While others debated theology, she practiced welcome.
Sometimes the holiest ground is not the road where theology is argued, but the table where bread is shared, and the kitchen where love keeps moving after the miracle.
Not all resurrection witnesses are on the road.
Some are in the kitchen.
